Downloads

Everything saved on your device for offline use, how much space each takes, and how to remove what you no longer need.

Downloads shows everything you have saved to your device for offline use — recitation audio, Qur'an translations and tafsir, and hadith books — with how much space each takes, and lets you remove what you no longer need.

Al Islam keeps what you download on your phone so that it works without a connection. Over time, a library can grow: a few translations, several hadith collections, surahs saved in the voice of more than one reciter. Downloads puts all of it in one place, so you can see what is taking space and free it in a few taps.

Opening Downloads

Open Profile. Downloads is the first row in the settings card, marked with a download icon, and shows the total space your downloads use.

What the Screen Shows

This phone

At the top, This phone shows the free space on your device, and Al-Islam is using shows how much of it the app's downloads take.

Your downloads

Below, every downloaded item is listed with its size and a bar showing its share of the total. Two orders are available:

Order How the list is arranged
Largest first Every item in one list, the largest at the top — the quickest way to see what is taking the most space
By type Items grouped into the three kinds below, each group with its own total

Tap an item to expand it and see its details, with the option to remove it.

When nothing has been downloaded yet, the screen says so, and explains that translations, hadith books and recitation audio you save for offline use will be listed there.

What Is Listed

Kind What it is Where it comes from
Recitation Audio saved so a surah plays with no network at all, for each reciter Save offline on a surah, in the Quran
Qur'an translations and tafsir Renderings of the Qur'an, and the commentary that goes with them The translation, tafsir and transliteration sheets in the Quran
Hadith books Collections and their translations The collections list in the Hadith Library

Each item shows what it is — the reciter and surah, the translation and its language, the collection and its rendering — so you can tell similar items apart.

Saved recitations

Recitations saved for offline listening stay inside the app, stored securely. They are not placed in your Music or Downloads folders, and they are removed if the app is uninstalled. Downloads is where you manage them: see which surahs you have saved for each reciter, and how much space each takes.

A recitation that is playing is marked Playing now, and one that is still arriving is marked Still downloading.

Removing Downloads

One item

Expand it and choose Remove. The button shows how much space it frees — for example, Remove · frees 84 MB — and a confirmation repeats the figure before anything is removed. Choose Keep to change your mind.

An item that is still downloading can be stopped and removed in one step with Stop and remove.

Several items

  1. Tap Select.
  2. Choose the items to remove, or All to choose everything. Clear empties the selection.
  3. The running total shows how much space will be freed — Frees 212 MB.
  4. Tap Remove, and confirm.

A whole group

In By type, Remove all removes every item in a group — for example, all saved recitation audio — after confirming how much space it frees.

Nothing is lost for good

Anything you remove can be downloaded again, free, from the screen where you first chose it. Removing a translation or a hadith rendering does not change your reading choices: when you download it again, it returns to its place.

Tips

  • Start with the largest items. Recitation audio usually takes the most space; Largest first puts it at the top.
  • Keep what you read, remove what you tried. A translation you sampled once can go; it is a tap away if you want it again.
  • Save the surahs you listen to on the move — on a flight, or with mobile data off — and remove them when you no longer need them offline.
  • Check before a large download. This phone shows how much free space you have.

Common Questions

Question Answer
Will removing a download affect my notes, collections or history? No. Downloads holds the texts and audio themselves; everything you have written or saved is kept.
Can I get something back after removing it? Yes. Download it again, free, from where you first chose it.
Why is a recitation marked Still downloading? It has not finished arriving. Leave it to complete, or choose Stop and remove.
Where are saved recitations on my phone? Inside the app, stored securely — not in your file manager. Manage them here.
