Effective Date: August 1, 2026 Version 4.5 — supersedes Version 4.0 (April 29, 2025)
Welcome to Al Islam. These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Al Islam Android application ("the App"). By downloading or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
About This Revision
The App has grown considerably, and these Terms set out in full what it does today. Please read these sections in particular:
- Section 5 — Premium is an auto-renewing subscription. Section 5 sets out the billing, renewal and cancellation terms in full.
- Section 6 — AI Assistance. Entirely new. Covers your responsibilities when connecting your own AI provider, who pays for what, and the serious limits of AI-generated religious content.
- Section 11 — Prayer times and Qibla accuracy. New, and important. What these calculations can and cannot guarantee.
- Section 12 — Reminders. New. Why a reminder is a convenience and not a guarantee, and what you should not rely on it for.
- Sections 8 to 10 — Camera, microphone, sensors, and file import and export, all introduced across the 4.x releases.
1. Use of the App
The App is intended for personal, non-commercial use to help you access Islamic content and utilities, including the Quran, Hadith, prayer times, the Hijri calendar, Qibla direction, tasbeeh, and personal notes.
You may not:
- Use the App for any unlawful or prohibited purpose.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, modify, or tamper with the App or its contents.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the App's backend or infrastructure.
- Use the App in any way that could damage, disable, or impair its functionality for yourself or others.
- Use the App to produce, distribute, or promote content that misrepresents Islamic teachings.
2. Accounts and Authentication
Some features — cloud backup and premium subscriptions — require an account. Most of the App does not, and you are welcome to use it without ever creating one.
When you create an account, you agree to:
- Provide accurate information, including a valid email address and your chosen display name.
- Keep your credentials secure and confidential.
- Notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
You are responsible for activity under your account. You can review and sign out your active devices at any time from within the App. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
3. Permissions
The App requests certain device permissions. Each is optional, each is used only for the feature it belongs to, and each can be revoked at any time in your device settings without breaking the rest of the App.
By granting a permission you consent to its use as described in our Privacy Policy — which sets out every permission the App holds, what it is for, and what happens if you decline it. Granting a permission does not authorise any use beyond the feature it serves.
4. The Free Plan and Advertising
The App is free to use, and advertising supports that. On the free plan:
- Advertisements are displayed, including full-screen interstitial ads.
- Interstitial ads are limited to five per day. This is a commitment the App enforces, not a guideline.
- Ads are delivered by third-party advertising partners under their own terms and privacy policies.
Al Islam Premium removes advertising entirely.
5. Premium Subscriptions and Billing
Al Islam Premium is an optional subscription that unlocks additional features. Please read this section carefully before purchasing.
Nature of the purchase
Premium is an auto-renewing subscription, available in monthly and annual plans. Unless you cancel, it renews automatically at the end of each billing period and your payment method is charged for the next period.
Billing
- All purchases, renewals, and cancellations are processed by Google Play under Google Play's billing terms.
- Prices are shown inside the App in your own currency and market, as supplied by Google Play at the time of purchase. Where the App compares plans or shows a saving, that figure is calculated from those live prices.
- We do not process or store any payment information.
Cancellation
- You may cancel at any time through your Google Play account settings.
- Cancellation stops future renewals. It does not end your current billing period — premium features remain available until that period expires.
- Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription. You must cancel through Google Play.
Price and plan changes
We may change pricing or the composition of plans. Any change to the price of an existing subscription will be communicated in advance in accordance with Google Play's requirements, and you will have the opportunity to cancel before it takes effect. Changes never apply retroactively to a period you have already paid for.
If your subscription lapses
Content you created while subscribed — notes, collections, saved results, configurations — is not deleted when a subscription ends. Premium features become unavailable, but your own data remains yours and remains on your device.
Refunds
- Refunds are governed primarily by Google Play's refund policy, and requests are usually best made directly to Google Play.
- If premium access was not granted despite a completed payment, contact us and we will resolve it or support your refund request in full.
- Statutory rights of withdrawal or refund that apply in your country are unaffected by anything in these Terms.
Security
We are not responsible for unauthorized access to your payment data or account if the App was obtained from any source other than the official Google Play Store. Always install Al Islam from its official listing.
6. AI Assistance — Bring Your Own Key
The App offers optional AI-assisted features, including translation, spoken audio, questions about a passage, saved translations, custom commands, and voice dictation. These operate on a bring-your-own-key model, and using them carries responsibilities that are yours rather than ours.
Your provider account
- To use AI features you connect your own account with a third-party AI provider and supply your own API key.
- Your relationship with that provider is directly between you and them. Their terms, pricing, and acceptable-use policies apply to your usage.
- You are solely responsible for all costs your provider charges you. We do not bill for provider usage, cannot see it, and cannot refund it. Usage costs depend on the provider, the model, and how much you use it — please understand your provider's pricing before you begin.
- You are responsible for keeping your key secure and for any use made of it.
How requests travel
Requests go directly from your device to the provider you selected. We operate no proxy or intermediate server for AI traffic, do not receive your prompts or responses, and cannot retrieve, restore, or moderate them.
Accuracy and religious content — please read carefully
- AI-generated output can be inaccurate, incomplete, or entirely fabricated, including when it concerns Islamic texts, rulings, translations, chains of narration, or attributions. Fabricated citations that appear authentic are a known and common failure of these systems.
- AI output is not a religious authority. It must never be treated as a fatwa, a scholarly verdict, or a substitute for qualified Islamic scholarship.
- Never rely on an AI translation, summary, explanation, or citation of Quran or Hadith without verifying it against the authentic sources presented in the App, or confirming it with a qualified scholar.
- We do not generate, review, endorse, or take responsibility for any output produced by a third-party provider through these features.
Availability
AI features may require an active premium subscription, an internet connection, and a working provider account. Provider availability, pricing, and model behaviour are outside our control and may change without notice.
7. Cloud Backup and Sync
The App offers optional cloud backup that syncs your collections across devices. By enabling it, you acknowledge that:
- Your collections and account details will be transmitted to and stored on our secure servers.
- You are responsible for the content you choose to back up.
- The feature may be modified, temporarily suspended, or discontinued. Where a change is significant, you will be notified within the App in advance.
- Disabling backup or deleting your account results in your server-side data being permanently removed within 30 days.
- Backup is a convenience, not an archival guarantee. It should not be your only copy of anything irreplaceable.
Cloud backup is optional and off by default. If you do not enable it, that data does not leave your device.
Your API keys are never included in backup, on any plan, under any setting.
8. Camera, Microphone and Sensors
Camera. The augmented-reality Qibla mode displays a live camera view with the Qibla direction drawn over it. The App does not capture, store, or transmit any photograph or video, and has no capability to do so. Camera permission is optional; other Qibla modes work without it.
Microphone. Voice dictation records only while you actively start and stop a recording. There is no background recording, wake-word, or always-listening behaviour. You are responsible for the content you record and for ensuring you have the right to record and transcribe it — particularly where another person's voice is involved, which may be subject to law in your jurisdiction.
Sensors. The Qibla feature reads compass and motion sensors to determine which way your device is facing. These readings are used live and are never stored or transmitted.
9. Importing and Exporting Files
The App can import and export files, always through Android's system file picker. It receives only the specific file you select and cannot browse or scan your device storage.
When you import a file — a custom font, an audio file, or a settings backup — you confirm that you have the right to use it and that it does not infringe anyone's rights. We do not verify, validate, or take responsibility for imported files. A malformed or incompatible file may simply fail to load.
When you export a file — such as tasbeeh or calendar settings — it leaves the App and becomes an ordinary file under your sole control. We neither retain a copy nor bear responsibility for what happens to it afterwards.
10. Your Content
The App lets you create collections, bookmarks, notes, drawings, tasbeeh routines, and other personal content. You agree that:
- You retain full ownership of everything you create.
- You are solely responsible for the content you create.
- Content created on your device is not accessible to us unless you explicitly enable cloud backup. Your Collections — including the notes and drawings inside them — are covered by backup; tasbeeh data, reading history, settings and your API keys are not.
- You will use these features respectfully and in keeping with the purpose of the App.
We claim no ownership over your notes, drawings, or collections, and we do not read, analyse, or use them for any purpose.
11. Prayer Times and Qibla Direction
These features are calculated aids offered in good faith. They are not authoritative determinations.
Prayer times
- Prayer times are computed from your location using established calculation conventions. Different schools and local authorities adopt different conventions, and results can legitimately differ by several minutes.
- Accuracy depends on the precision of your location, your device's clock and time zone, and the convention you have selected.
- At extreme latitudes, conventional methods become unreliable and approximation rules are applied.
- Where your local mosque or local scholarly authority differs from the App, follow them.
Qibla direction
- The compass reading depends on your device's magnetometer, which is readily disturbed by nearby metal, magnets, electronics, phone cases, and vehicles.
- Calibrate your device, and where accuracy matters, verify against a known reference.
- The augmented-reality view is a visual aid and inherits every one of these limitations.
Hijri dates
Hijri dates are calculated astronomically. Local moon-sighting authorities may declare a different date, and where they do, theirs prevails.
We do not warrant the accuracy of any prayer time, direction, or date, and the App should not be your sole source where precision is essential.
12. Reminders and Notifications
The App can remind you of prayers, tasbeeh routines, and calendar events. Reminders are a convenience and are not guaranteed to be delivered on time, or at all.
Android controls when a background reminder may run. Battery optimization, power-saving modes, "Do Not Disturb", manufacturer-specific app restrictions, force-stopping the App, and device restarts can all delay or suppress a reminder — and these behaviours vary considerably between manufacturers and are outside our control.
Do not rely solely on the App for any religious obligation that is time-sensitive. We are not liable for a missed prayer, fast, or event arising from a reminder that did not appear or appeared late.
13. Offline Use, Downloads and Storage
The App is designed to work offline for many core features. However:
- Some features — downloading language packs and collections, account sync, subscription verification, AI assistance, and place-name lookup — require an internet connection.
- Downloadable content consumes device storage, potentially a significant amount. Managing your device storage is your responsibility, and downloads may fail or be removed if storage runs low.
- Offline availability may vary with your device and configuration.
- We do not guarantee uninterrupted access to any feature at all times.
14. Islamic Content — Authenticity and Disclaimer
Al Islam presents Quranic verses, Hadith, translations, and other Islamic content sourced from widely recognized and authentic references, including classical Hadith collections and established translations.
However:
- The App does not claim scholarly authority and is not a substitute for qualified Islamic scholarship.
- The App is not intended for issuing fatwas or religious verdicts.
- Translations carry linguistic variation reflecting each translator's methodology. For scholarly study, refer to the original Arabic.
- Interpretations vary. We encourage you to consult trusted scholars for guidance on religious matters.
- Any errors or inaccuracies are unintended. We welcome respectful corrections through our support contact and take them seriously.
15. Intellectual Property
All original content, designs, interface components, and features developed for Al Islam are the intellectual property of the developer. Content included in the App is either original, in the public domain (such as classical Islamic texts), or open-source with appropriate attribution.
You may not:
- Copy, reproduce, or distribute App content for commercial purposes without written permission.
- Claim ownership of any content sourced from the App.
Educational and da'wah sharing of App content is permitted, provided proper attribution is maintained.
16. Respectful Use
Al Islam is a spiritual and scholarly tool intended to benefit the Muslim Ummah. You agree to use it with respect for its purpose and content, and to refrain from misusing Islamic texts, the App's features, or the platform as a whole.
17. Privacy
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the App, you consent to the practices described there.
18. Third-Party Services
The App relies on a limited set of third-party services, including Google Play for billing, advertising partners, a crash diagnostics provider, an open mapping service for place names, optional social sign-in providers, and — only if you enable them — the AI provider you configure.
Each operates under its own terms and privacy policy. We are not responsible for their independent practices. A current list appears in our Privacy Policy.
19. Disclaimer of Warranties
The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that:
- The App will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.
- All content, calculations, or timings will be free from inaccuracies or omissions.
- The App will meet your specific requirements.
20. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of or inability to use the App, including loss of data, missed reminders, or service interruptions.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, and nothing here affects your statutory consumer rights.
21. Account Termination
You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at support.alislam@lymrah.com. Upon deletion:
- Your account and server-side data are permanently removed within 30 days.
- Local data is removed when you uninstall the App.
- Deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription. Cancel that through Google Play.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
22. Feedback
We welcome feedback, bug reports, and feature suggestions. By submitting feedback:
- You grant us the right to use your suggestions at our discretion, without compensation or attribution.
- Feedback creates no obligation on our part to implement any requested change.
23. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms. Where changes are significant, we will notify you within the App before they take effect, and continued use after notification constitutes acceptance.
The version number and effective date at the top always reflect the most recent revision, and each revision states what changed.
